Embrace vulnerability and share both your successes and challenges

In a world full of marketing tricks and artificially created images, authenticity is the valuable capital of your personal brand!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

Nadya Koleva - at this stage a person who is in control of themselves and their time and lives with a sense of mission. In professional terms I create franchising partnerships to enhance financial well-being in Bulgaria. Personally - my husband and I happily raise three daughters and one beautiful poodle.

How would you define a personal brand and why is it so important today?

In today's world of abundance, a personal brand is more than just a name – it is the story we tell, the reputation we build, and the impression we leave on others. It is how people perceive us – online and offline.

How did you start building your personal brand? What motivates you?

There cannot be such a moment defined. You work for your name from the very beginning. Later, social media provided the opportunity to reach and influence a larger audience.

What are the most important elements of a successful personal brand?

Authenticity and emotional connection with the audience. Trust and expertise. Clear messaging. Consistency. Visibility and activity. And last but not least - visual identity.

How to find your niche and unique value?

Our niche and unique value are a combination of what we love, what we are good at, and what people need. When we find this balance, our personal brand will be strong, authentic, and sustainable.

Should the personal brand be built around personality or expertise?

If we denote personality with one and expertise - with zeros, then to get a high value we need the right combination.

What first steps would you recommend to someone who is just starting?

1. Define your mission, niche, and message.

2. Strong online and offline presence with meaningful content.

3. Build relationships.

4. Consistency, activity, and adaptability.

5. Reality check.

What platforms are most suitable for developing a personal brand today?

Any that provide access to the desired audience. And, of course, we adapt the message and format – on LinkedIn it is one, in Instagram - another.

What role does authenticity play in a personal brand and how to maintain it?

In a world full of marketing tricks and artificially created images, authenticity is the valuable capital of your personal brand. It is the element that makes people believe in you, connect with you, and want to follow your content.

Embrace vulnerability - share not only your successes but also your challenges. Talk about what truly excites you. Don’t copy. Be consistent, but also evolve.

How to create content that engages and builds trust?

People remember not what we have "said", but how they felt as a result. "Speak" directly to your audience, not in general. Tell stories. Provide value. Encourage interaction. Share evidence of the effectiveness of your products, services, and mission.

What are the most common mistakes people make when building a personal brand?

Mixed messages. Overly polished, artificial image. Ignoring visual identity.

Lack of integrity - for example, a perfect feed and arrogant comments under others' posts.

How to deal with negative comments and criticism?

They have great value. They provoke engagement from our audience. Often the audience itself consolidates much more against one negative comment than as a result of a text thought out for hours. This applies to meetings and live presentations as well. Criticism is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate assertiveness, emotional intelligence, and professionalism. And yet - everything has its limits. As a last resort online - deleting and blocking. Don’t be afraid of that. You wouldn’t allow someone to deface the facade of your home without consequences, calling it "freedom of expression".

How to avoid burnout when investing a lot of effort in your personal brand?

Yes, the question of how you appear in the eyes of others dates back long before the internet. In extreme cases, it may help to look at a picture of the universe and compare its size to the worries about your own image. And to remember – people are mainly interested in themselves, not in us. Then the effect FOMO (fear of missing out – the fear of falling behind, of missing out), whose consequence is often exactly burnout, decreases drastically.

How can a strong personal brand lead to more opportunities (jobs, partnerships, clients)? What are the best ways to monetize a personal brand?

From affiliate marketing and sponsored partnerships, through electronic guides, books, and membership subscriptions to online courses and sales of own products. The opportunities are limitless. I have no personal experience with this. In my profession, offline reputation is paramount. A good name will always be gold.

When is the right time to start offering paid services or products?

If we have a strong brand and value behind it - now. Don’t be afraid, just test.

How to maintain sustainability and long-term growth of the personal brand?

By not stopping ourselves from developing and simply sharing this in an interesting and inspiring way with our audience.

What habits and discipline are needed to build authority?

Consistency and emotional intelligence. Like in sports training – don’t depend on your mood, but on your goals.

Which personalities with a successful personal brand inspire you and why?

Here is the moment to pay attention to a naturally emerging new trend that replaces the model "Work hard, play hard", called work-life integration. We are one whole person – not "work me" and "personal me". Success and satisfaction come from harmony, not from the exhausting pursuit of balancing and opposing.

With my team, we experience this very intensely – there is no clear distinction between rest and work days. Things flow together, but we joyfully and willingly do them. This creates a environment where I would like my own children to live/work.

So, I am inspired and follow with interest personalities who succeed exactly in this – in Bulgaria and abroad.

What three specific things can people do today to improve their personal brand?

Here is an important tool for beginners, as well as for advanced. At any moment, before we undertake something or to revise our previous actions, we should ask ourselves the questions: What is my message with this and does it correspond to the person I am and want to be.
