Every day is a challenge

Adhering to the rules, professional attitude, and maintaining discipline are key to achieving balance and productivity!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

I am Elena Stoyanova – Head of Human Resources at Latecoere Bulgaria.  “Latecoere” is a global company, founded in 1917 - a pioneer in aviation and the only manufacturer in the aircraft construction sector in Bulgaria with Airbus as its main client.

I am responsible for processes related to people, building an employer brand, strategic planning, and the connection with corporate processes and standards. My experience in Human Resources is primarily in manufacturing companies from various sectors.

Tell us what are the philosophy and values of the company you are currently working for?

Latecoere is a legend in the world of the aviation industry. The pursuit of excellence, the courage to make the impossible happen, and commitment to  team, product, client are the fundamental values on which the company builds its success. The driving forces for achieving exceptional results are recognizable in the management style of every single process in the company - focus on what matters most, together for success and doing it right from the first attempt. Here I would like to paraphrase the inspiring words of the founder of the company – Pierre-Georges Latecoere: All calculations show that it is impossible to achieve. And we are left with only one option – to make it happen!

How long have you been working at the current company? What are the main motivating factors that keep you there?

I joined the company in the summer of 2022. I work in a team with wonderful people, dedicated to their work. The values of Latecoere are recognizable in the work of my colleagues. The relationships are open, authentic. The dynamics are high, changes are a daily occurrence, the goals are clear and challenging. In this whole palette, I find my place and value, to contribute with my work and competencies to the success of Latecoere Bulgaria. And last but not least – it is an honor and pride for me to work for a legendary European company and the only manufacturer in the aviation industry in Bulgaria.

If you had to recommend the company to your acquaintances or friends, what would you share with them to attract their attention?

The product we produce is unique and participates in fulfilling humanity's dream – to fly!

What does your company do to organize a constructive and beneficial work environment for everyone? Should we be friends with our colleagues?

The processes for people in the company are in a constant process of improvement to ensure a calm and secure working environment. We strive for continuous improvement. On the other hand, adherence to rules, professional attitude, and maintaining discipline are key to achieving balance and productivity. Within these frameworks, friendship in the workplace is a desired effect. Friendship based on trust – creating a work environment of trust is a goal we strive for.

Tell us a little more about your responsibilities in the company? What makes you enjoy going to work? How do you handle difficult and stressful moments?

In the position of Head of Human Resources Department, my responsibilities cover a wide range of everything related to the lives of those working for Latecoere at their workplace – from health and safety at work, security, compliance with legislation to budget management and strategic planning of human resources in the long term. My role is a Business partner to the company's management – I consult, support, and control when necessary compliance with internal and external regulations, as well as the management of teams.

What work model does your company adhere to – office or remote? What are the advantages in your specific case and position?

The main function in a manufacturing company is the one that directly participates in making the product and this cannot happen remotely. In a manufacturing environment, remote work for the Human Resources department is ineffective. It is natural that all supporting functions can only perform their tasks fully and responsibly if they are close to the heart of the company – production.

What have you managed to seriously enhance in your work during your time in this company?

I am still learning about the industry I work in. Every day is a challenge and requires flexibility and decision-making ability. Decisions that I discuss with the team and I am ready to change in the presence of good reasoning.

How important is the hierarchy and what does it mean to you?

The hierarchy provides structure and a matrix for decision-making and accountability. The role of the hierarchical leader in the organization is that of one who bears the responsibility. This means that their team must be provided with everything necessary to perform their duties, to be competent and empowered. The hierarchy is based on respect and understanding of the role of the leader, who represents their team to other leaders.  Regarding relationships – the boundaries should be clear, communication open and light.

What is your career advice for all people who are building a strategy for their professional development?

Ask yourself who you are and where you want to go. Answer yourself honestly.

Look for examples of successful people, according to your criteria, and draw from their experience. Study them carefully. Find your mentor and work hard and dedicatedly. Success will follow.
