Presentation
My name is Maya Gerasimova and in my life I follow two great passions – my professional one is marketing, and my personal one is travel. For more than 30 years, I have been involved in sales and marketing, with my experience spanning multinational companies as well as Bulgarian businesses – from startups like "Nuhelt" and "Treidon" to leading manufacturing structures with 9 factories, like "Bella Bulgaria".
Dreams in Childhood
As a child, I was just as disoriented as today’s teenagers – I wanted to be a pianist, an artist… But in the end, it turned out that I was best at mathematics. I graduated with full honors from the Mathematical High School, and later – the Technical University.
The First Money
My first money came from student brigades, which today we would consider a form of child labor. I was born in Kazanlak – and like many others, I picked roses in the early morning. But the first real amount I received was in 9th grade during the mint harvest. A difficult but valuable experience.
What Shapes Us as Individuals?
The more I study human achievements, the more I believe that the talents we are born with play a key role. Still, family, school, and environment should not be underestimated. Today, I notice that children’s creativity is often “castrated” by the constant flow of information. Letting a child be bored and find an activity on their own – that is the true heroic act of parenting.
What Motivates Me Today?
Years ago, I was driven by success and personal achievements. Now – the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and experience. It is joyful to see how colleagues with whom you have worked develop as professionals and individuals.
Higher Education – Improvisation with a Happy Ending
I decided which university to attend on the train from Kazanlak to Sofia. I applied with mathematics and enrolled in the Technical University, influenced by classmates. Later, I also studied at Sofia University. I have never worked as an engineer, but this preparation taught me logical thinking and discipline – invaluable qualities in product management.
Interests and Hobbies
I have endless curiosity about human psychology. Besides engineering, I have studied international relations and management. Today, access to information is easy, but often misleading. And artificial intelligence can also “hallucinate.” Traveling is my favorite hobby – I love to explore cultures and people, often with more enthusiasm than for natural wonders. I can spend an entire day at an exotic market – for me, that is the best way to get to know a country.
Would I Change My Profession?
In Bulgaria today, marketing is often confused with advertising and working with influencers. But its essence lies in the product and the needs it satisfies. Therefore, it seems that I am on a wave of seeking some change.
I would retrain as an organizer of adventure travels – although the competition is already large and wonderfully developed in this niche.
What Would I Like People to Say About Me?
That when you work with me, you truly understand what marketing is. I have heard this, and it is the greatest recognition for me.
How Do I Handle Challenges?
With a smile, good mood, and positivity – this is what I strive to pass on to those around me.
Communication with People
Openness, respect, and focus on strengths – these are the three main rules I follow. Every person has qualities and instead of focusing on mistakes, let’s help develop their strengths.
Money and Values
Money brings me peace – the ability to cover my expenses without stress. I do not seek status, I am not carried away by expensive things. I have the means to travel the world, but I love hostels and shared travels because meeting new people is the most valuable part.
The Most Valuable Career Advice?
Never lose your childlike curiosity. It is the engine of true success. The world around us is full of new things – as long as we are open to them.
