Staying calm is key in tense situations

A sustainable career is not built with short victories, but with consistency and meaning. Every step should be part of the bigger picture!

Introduce yourself with a few words..

My name is Tsvetomir Stefanov and I hold the position of Head of the “Communications, Digital Marketing and Event Management” department at “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD – the concessionaire company for Burgas Airport and Varna Airport.

Tell us what the philosophy and values of the company you currently work for are?

“Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD follows a clear philosophy – sustainable and equal development of the airports in Varna and Burgas, responsibility towards society and local communities, and high-quality service. The company values transparency, professionalism, and teamwork. The attitude towards passengers and visitors of both seaside airports, security, and innovations are at the core of our daily activities, and the commitment to regional development in Burgas and Varna is part of our long-term mission.

How long have you been working at the current company? What are the main motivating factors that keep you in it?

I have been part of the company for more than four years. The strongest motivating factors are the opportunity to work on strategic projects of national importance, such as the development of the airports in Burgas and Varna, the dynamic environment, international experience, and a strong sense of contribution – both to the brand and to both seaside regions. I believe in the people, I work with, and this is an invaluable driving force.

If you had to recommend the company to your acquaintances or friends, what would you share with them to attract their attention?

I would tell them, that this is a place, where initiative is valued, talents are developed, and there is serious vision for the future. The company offers stability, but also challenges that inspire. For people, who want to develop in the aviation and tourism industry – this is a environment that offers real opportunities and a strong professional culture.

What does your company do to organize a constructive and beneficial working environment for everyone? Should we be friends with our colleagues?

The company invests in clear internal communication, training, coordination between departments, and an atmosphere of respect. Regular meetings are organized, team buildings and inter-team projects, which create a sense of common purpose. Inmutual respect, empathy and good tone are at the foundation of a constructive working environment between colleagues.

Tell us a little more about your responsibilities in the company? What makes you enjoy going to work? How do you handle difficult and stressful moments?

I lead and implement the company’s communication strategy – including internal and external communication, media activities, events and digital marketing. I enjoy the feeling that my work has a real impact on local communities. In stressful situations, I rely on preparation, clear planning, and the ability to stay calm. For me, the strongest resource is the team and the trust in it, and I have an amazing team that I work with.

What work model does your company adhere to – office or remote? What are the advantages in your specific case and position?

We mainly work in an office model, with flexible options when necessary. In my position, personal presence, coordination between different units, and intensive communication with partners and media require active on-site work. The advantage is in quick response, quick decision-making, and the sense of rhythm in the team, which is undoubtedly a pleasant dynamic in the work process.

What have you managed to seriously enhance in your work over time in this company?

I have managed to develop strategic thinking in the field of communications, to significantly increase the public visibility and awareness of the work of Burgas Airport and Varna Airport, including elevating the company’s event activity to a new level and building a stable network of media partnerships. Additionally, I have enhanced my ability to react quickly in crisis situations and to work in a highly multidisciplinary environment. All of this, of course, is thanks to the visionary management policy of the company’s leadership, the trust of the CEO - Dr. Frank Quante in me, and not least - the efforts of my invaluable team, which I have the privilege to lead.

How important is hierarchy and what does it mean to you?

Hierarchy is important when it is functional – when it does not hinder but supports coordination, taking responsibility, and decision-making. For me, a good hierarchy does not mean “commands from above”, but clarity in responsibilities and respect for every level. Truly effective structures work horizontally in spirit, even when they are vertical in form.

What is your career advice for all people who are building a strategy for their professional development?

The advice, I always give to young people who seek consultation with me, is: “Be valuable – not just successful.”
Invest in your reputation
, in your ethics, and in your ability to work with people. These are the most long-term assets. And one more thing – do not rush. A sustainable career is not built with short victories, but with consistency and meaning. Every step should be part of the bigger picture.
I have a favorite quote from Arthur Ashe
, which summarizes this with the words: “Success is a journey, not a destination. And action, not applause, defines it.”
