There are no irreplaceable people

Sometimes the best thing we can do is take a step back – to look at the situation from the outside, with a new perspective!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

My name is Lyudmila Romanova and I have been professionally developing in the field of human resources for over 15 years. I have always believed that work has the deepest meaning when it contributes to the well-being of others. In recent years, my interests have focused on topics of job satisfaction, intrinsic motivation, and the psychology behind the choices we make in our lives and careers.

How would you describe your career in a few words?

Intensive, dynamic, and full of challenges. Working with people daily presents various situations that require adaptability and understanding. At the same time, it enriches – it expands the palette of human emotions and skills we encounter and develop.

What was the most important choice that shaped your path?

Not to be afraid of changes – whether purely administrative or in changing direction! I believe that the moment personal values differ from those of the company you work for, your paths should diverge.

What would you have liked to know at the beginning of your career that no one told you?

That not everything that seems moral and “right” aligns with business interests. And that there are no irreplaceable people – there are different approaches, skills, and work styles that simply lead to different results.

How can a person understand which profession is suitable for them?

By giving themselves time for self-exploration and openly looking at their strengths, talents, and interests. The question that everyone should ask themselves is: “Are there people willing to pay for what I am good at?” If the answer is "yes" – follow it with full dedication.

Which skills do you think will be key in the next 10 years?

Adaptability – the ability to quickly adjust to a changing reality – will be paramount. Creativity will also become increasingly valuable, especially in the era of artificial intelligence. The ability to think independently, ask questions, and seek innovative solutions will distinguish human intelligence in the new technological context.

How to build a network of useful contacts without appearing interested?

By approaching with authentic curiosity and respect for the other person, without hidden intentions. The key is to build sincere connections based on the exchange of ideas, support, and trust – not on immediate gain.

What is the biggest mistake you have made in your career, and what did you learn from it?

Probably a mistake that I still sometimes make – taking things personally. My tendency to experience the emotions of colleagues equally with them is an expression of empathy, but also a lesson – that it is important to set boundaries to maintain my professional focus and inner peace.

How to recognize a toxic work environment and when is it time to leave?

A toxic environment is recognized by the lack of respect, tolerance of inappropriate behavior, as well as by the fact that dishonest employees remain without consequences. When we start waking up unwillingly and our work brings us emotional discomfort, that is a clear signal that it is time for change – for the sake of our personal health, professionalism, and inner balance.

What would you do differently if you could start over?

If I could start over, I would invest more time in myself – in training, working with a mentor or coach to guide and support my development. Timely support and knowledge passed on by experienced people can significantly accelerate personal and professional growth.

How to maintain motivation during times of stagnation?

Sometimes the best thing we can do is take a step back – to look at the situation from the outside, with a new perspective. This may mean giving ourselves a little time, indulging in something that brings us joy, or simply taking a short break. After that, it is important to remember what has inspired us, what has brought us satisfaction, and how we can recognize these signals earlier in the future.

How to achieve a balance between professional and personal life?

Truly good professionals are those who know how to create a balance between work and personal life. They know when to fully dedicate themselves to their tasks and when to recover through time with family, favorite activities, or personal rituals. Nowadays, it is especially important to take care of ourselves, to value the time spent, and to reward ourselves – not only with results but also with attention and joy from life.

When is it time to change our career, not just the job?

When deep down we feel that the job no longer brings us satisfaction, that our efforts do not lead to results, and that our motivation is running out, it is time for more serious reflection. If the answers to the questions “What makes me happy?” and “How do I want my days to pass?” do not align with our current reality – then it is time to consider a new direction. Even if it means starting over and investing in new training – the path to satisfaction is worth it.

If you had to give just one piece of advice to people seeking success, what would it be?

Believe in yourself. True belief in your own abilities is the foundation of every success. We often seek approval from outside, but the first step is to tell ourselves: “I can. I deserve.” When we put our heart and persistence into what we do, success will inevitably come.

What is your definition of a “successful career”?

For me, a successful career is one that brings you satisfaction every day – when you feel that you are doing something meaningful, that you are contributing, that you have helped someone. It is a career where you do not just work, but leave a mark behind you!
