Your personal brand communicates the added value you provide to others

Career should be an expression of our personal vision for success, not a compromise with ourselves!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

My name is Radina Peneva and I am  Project Manager at the Intelligent Operations Center of Accenture in Bulgaria. I believe that every challenge has more than one solution – as long as we look beyond the familiar.

How would you describe your career in a few words?

My professional path has not always been smooth, but always forward. Over the years, I have convinced myself that when you work hard, consistently, and do not give up, the results may not come immediately – but they always come.

What was the most important choice that shaped your path?

It is difficult for me to point out a single choice as the most important in my career. Rather, I believe that everything is a result of a series of decisions – some small, others bolder. What significantly contributed to my professional growth was my willingness to step out of my comfort zone and seek challenges instead of avoiding them.

What would you have liked to know at the beginning of your career that no one told you?

I wish I had known that mistakes are not a sign of failure, but an opportunity for growth.

How can one understand which profession is suitable for them?

To discover which profession is most suitable for you, it is important first to apply self-analysis – to think about what your true values are, what you are strong at, and what skills you would like to develop in the long term. When you find the intersection between what you can do, what brings you satisfaction, and the vision for your future “self,” you will be able to build a career path that is not only meaningful but also sustainable over time.

Which skills do you think will be key in the next 10 years?

Technological literacy, continuous self-improvement, critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence.

How to build a network of useful contacts without appearing interested?

True networking is not based on short-term benefits, but on building long-term and mutually beneficial relationships. Instead of focusing on the question “What will I get?”, you should think in terms of “What can we learn from each other?”. This change in approach means removing the interest only in what can benefit you and starting to view your network as a space for mutual enrichment.

What is the biggest mistake you have made in your career and what did you learn from it?

According to various studies, one of the most common mistakes of new managers is the tendency towards micromanagement. I was no exception. In my desire for everything to be perfect, I often imposed too much control and limited the initiative of the team.

Over time, I realized that an effective manager does not monitor every detail, but creates a clear vision and builds trust. The team is like an orchestra – everyone is an expert in their field, but for harmony to occur, everyone must see the big picture and understand the common goal. The manager is like a conductor who unites the collective efforts into a whole result.

This completely changed the way I lead and develop the people around me. Delegating, for example, is not only a necessity for personal productivity but also a key factor in building a strong, responsible, and motivated team.

How to recognize a toxic work environment and when is it time to leave?

The clearest indicator is the lack of a healthy corporate culture that encourages open communication, mutual respect, and support. In such an environment, timely feedback is often also lacking. If this is missing, it may be time to reassess the situation so that you can move forward.

What would you do differently if you could start over?

If I could start over, I would focus on long-term thinking. This would help me have more patience, but also vision from the very beginning.

How to maintain motivation in times of stagnation?

When we find ourselves in a moment of stagnation, it is important to return to our inner motivation. In such moments, we need to remind ourselves why we started and focus on the personal added value we derive from the process. For example, if we are working on a difficult project and encounter obstacles, we may feel that results are not coming despite our efforts, but we need to focus on what we are learning or what progress we are making, even when we do not see results. The reality of success is such – it is not instant, but it is inevitable if we continue to work with dedication and consistency.

How to achieve a balance between professional and personal life?

Achieving a balance between professional and personal life is the result of two main components: a supportive work environment and the personal boundaries we set.

Companies like ours, which provide support programs for their employees significantly facilitate finding this balance. Such companies create an atmosphere where employees feel respected not only for their professional achievements but also for their personal needs.

Despite the support from the employer, many responsibilities and decisions depend on ourselves. A key aspect of achieving balance is setting clear boundaries between personal and work time. This includes the ability to say “no” to additional tasks that we cannot take on or that would take away from our time outside of work.

When is it time to change your career, not just your job?

It is time to change your career, not just your job, when you feel that what you are doing does not help you be happy. A career should be an expression of our personal vision for success, not a compromise with ourselves.

If you had to give only one piece of advice to people seeking success, what would it be?

Work on your personal brand. It shows who you are and communicates the added value you provide to others.

What is your definition of a “successful career”?

A successful career, in my opinion, is one that brings inner satisfaction and meaning. It is not measured only in material results or status, but in the feeling that you are doing something significant. Success is not defined only by personal achievements but also by the impact we have on the people around us.
