Combine personality and expertise to have ambassadors, not just followers

When you are obsessed with a good cause and it is tied to your personal brand, burnout becomes a myth!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

My name is Evgeni Venkov. The man with two professions:
🔹 Business Development Manager at Netpeak. With over 8 years of experience in digital marketing and sales, I have consulted over 1,000 businesses and built more than 200 strategic partnerships with brands like Nestlé, Dominos, Kaufland, Porsche, Lilly Drogerie, and others.
🔹 Professional competitor and 8-time champion in Men’s Physique. In 2016, I heard the words “you will become disabled,” and today my mission is to reach Mr. Olympia and prove that there are no insurmountable boundaries – only a lack of discipline and persistence.

How would you define personal branding and why is it so important today?

Personal branding is the feeling you leave with people when you are not in the room. It is a combination of your messages, your actions, your values. Today it is the new CV. Before we looked at diplomas, today we look at who you are, what you fight for, and what you leave behind.

How did you start building your personal brand? What motivates you?

Since I was little, I imagined being on one hand a man looking like The Rock or Arnold Schwarzenegger, and on the other – an entrepreneur in a suit. The culmination came when I heard “there’s a chance you’ll become disabled.” After crying for two weeks, I told myself: “I will overcome this obstacle, I will reach the top and build a brand from this story.” My motivation is fueled by the words of the people around me – “you motivate me” – and the inner need to show, that things are possible.

What are the most important elements of a successful personal brand?

Authenticity, consistency, value. Especially in the world of AI, authenticity and humanity will prevail. The story behind the brand will be what sets us apart. When you see someone who has dedicated their life to perfecting a skill, who goes through hardships and simultaneously develops a career – that is priceless. Be what you say you are – and show it consistently. And most importantly: give something valuable to people. Every time they talk about you, that will be the reason.

How do we find our niche and unique value?

You take a pen and a piece of paper and answer the following questions:
“What am I really good at?”
“What do people seek me for advice on?”
“What do I do with ease that others find difficult?”
“How do I envision myself in 5-10 years?”
The answers will provide clarity for your niche. Unique value comes when you cross this strength with your story.

Should the personal brand be built around personality or expertise?

Around both. Your personality creates the connection. Your expertise creates trust. Combine them and you will have not just followers, but ambassadors of your mission.

What first steps would you recommend to someone just starting out?

First: a clear answer to the questions “Who are you? What are you fighting for and what are you willing to sacrifice?”. Then – choose a platform and start providing value. Write, speak, take photos. But don’t wait to be “perfect”. Start from where you are, with what you have.

What platforms are most suitable for developing a personal brand today?

Video is the most appropriate approach for presenting a personal brand. I recommend one video, adapted for different platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, even LinkedIn – which sometimes surprises with good organic reach.

What role does authenticity play in personal branding and how do we maintain it?

Authenticity is the definition of personal branding. It is maintained with internal honesty – being aware of yourself, your strengths and weaknesses. To dare to show not only your successes but also the lessons from the journey. Not to play a role, but to live your role authentically and boldly.

How do we create content that engages and builds trust?

Tell stories. Share the process, not just the result. Show failures, not just victories. People connect with the real. And if they can learn something useful between the lines – trust comes naturally.

What are the most common mistakes people make when building a personal brand?

They try to be everything to everyone. Or they copy others. Or they quit too quickly. A personal brand is built with time, patience, and character.

How do we deal with negative comments and criticism?

Criticism is inevitable. It is important to recognize its source. Constructive criticism – I accept. Hate – I ignore. Often a negative comment says more about the author than about the recipient.

How do we avoid burnout when investing a lot of effort into our personal brand?

In my opinion, when you are obsessed with a good cause and it is tied to your personal brand, burnout becomes a myth. Being obsessed and hyperactive in your self-improvement is the best thing you can do for your future “self” and for those around you.

How can a strong personal brand lead to more opportunities (jobs, partnerships, clients)?

People do not buy services – they buy trust. When your personal brand is clear, authentic, and valuable – you become a magnet for opportunities. You don’t chase them – they come to you.

What are the best ways to monetize a personal brand?

A personal brand can influence the sale of anything. When you recommend a product to a friend, you are actually already “selling”. Let’s not forget that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) didn’t become a billionaire just from movies or wrestling, but from Tequila Teremana – a brand he started and built thanks to his personal brand and great loyalty from fans..

When is the right time to start offering paid services or products?

When you have already provided free value. When people start asking you for opinions, guidance, more information. Don’t wait for everything to be in order. But also don’t rush before you have built trust.

How do we maintain sustainability and long-term growth of the personal brand?

With a clear vision and flexible tactics. If we have a long-term mission that we pursue, and maintain adaptability to inevitable changes – we will remain relevant and sustainable.

What habits and discipline are needed to build authority?

Regularity. Self-reflection. Responsibility. And most importantly: to walk the path you preach. Authority is built when your words and actions are in sync – day after day.

Which personalities with a successful personal brand inspire you and why?

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) – because of his work ethic, dedication, and relentless discipline. He conquered both wrestling and Hollywood. When I was a child, I had a t-shirt with his face – today, 20 years later, he looks even better and is even more successful. His career is an example of strategic long-term building.

What three specific things can people do today to improve their personal brand?

  1. Write your mission, story, long-term goal – clearly describe who you want to be, what your future “self” looks like, and why this is important to you.

  2. Ask yourself the questions: “How can I be useful to society? What is my passion? If I didn’t need money, what would I do?” – the answers will show you the true direction.

  3. Find and follow people who are already on the path you want to take. Mentorship is the most direct path to personal and professional growth.
