The expertise is what you prove, but your personality is what remains

The personal brand for me is a personal cause – to be helpful, to give meaning, and to be part of the change I want to see around me!

Introduce yourself in a few words..

My name is Dilyana Mihova and I am the Head of "Marketing and Sales" at SENTILION. Being part of a team that changes human destinies through advanced technologies and innovations is not just a professional challenge, but a personal cause. My work brings deep meaning because every day I contribute to more people in Bulgaria getting a chance for a more fulfilling and dignified life. With all my heart and energy, I strive to make our mission visible, recognizable, and inspiring. My colleagues often smile and say that the word "no" does not appear in my vocabulary – and they are right. For me, every challenge is an opportunity because I believe that with faith, perseverance, and a clear goal, there are no impossible things.

How would you define a personal brand and why is it so important today?
The personal brand is the sum of the impressions we leave after each meeting – whether online or in person. It is our reputation, our voice, the value we carry. In today’s connected world, where competition is huge, the personal brand is the way to stand out – not just with what we do, but with who we are and how we do it.

How did you start building your personal brand? What motivates you?
For me, everything started naturally – through the responsibility towards the people I work with and my desire to always bring value. I realized that the personal brand is not just a matter of visibility, but of consistency, ethics, and real results.

What are the most important elements of a successful personal brand?
Over time, I realized that the strongest personal brand is built not around what you achieve, but around who you are, how you think, and how you influence others. For me, the personal brand is a personal cause – to be helpful, to give meaning, and to be part of the change I want to see around me.

How to find your niche and unique value?
For me, everything starts with a simple but profound question: “What do I believe so strongly that I would defend it, even if not everyone understands it right away?”
Our true value lies at the intersection of what we can do, what we love, and what the world needs.

Should the personal brand be built around personality or expertise?
From my experience as a marketing and sales specialist with a long career and leadership role, I believe that a successful personal brand is built around the core – and that is the personality carrying the expertise.
Expertise is what you prove. But your personality is what remains. In a world where many people have similar knowledge and skills, it is the way you think, communicate, inspire, and present yourself that makes the difference.

What first steps would you recommend to someone just starting out?
The personal brand is not just a business card, but a reflection of your voice and message to the world. Believe that you have something to give – that is the strongest start… and take action. Don’t wait until you are "ready" to start. The brand is not a final product, but a journey.

What platforms are most suitable for developing a personal brand today?
LinkedIn is an extremely strong channel for professional positioning – a place where you can show not only what you do but also why you do it. I like it because it brings together people with ambitions, ideas, and values who seek meaning, not just an exchange of business cards.
Of course, this is not the only way – today there are many platforms through which you can develop a personal brand according to your audience and style. It is important to be present where your voice sounds the most authentic.

What role does authenticity play in the personal brand and how to maintain it?
Authenticity is the backbone of a sustainable personal brand because people sense when you are genuine – and that is when they start to connect with you on a deeper level.
Being authentic means staying true to your values, even when it is not the easiest choice. Having the courage to show not only the tip of the iceberg – the achievements, but also what lies beneath the surface – the efforts, failures, lessons, and growth.

How to create content that engages and builds trust?
Trust is not earned with superlatives. It comes when people see in you not a hero, but a real person – with a journey, efforts, and passion. That is where authenticity is born – and it attracts.

What are the most common mistakes people make when building a personal brand?
One of the most common mistakes is the pursuit of a perfect image – smooth, flawless, but also soulless. In our attempt to appear ideal, we often lose the most valuable thing – ourselves.

How to deal with negative comments and criticism?
Dealing starts with inner clarity. If you know why you do what you do – if you believe in your message and stand behind it with respect – the opinions of others stop shaking you so much.
Constructive criticism is a gift. But malicious words should pass by you, not through you.
I find it helpful not to react immediately – I give myself time, sometimes minutes, sometimes days – before deciding whether and how to respond.

How to avoid burnout when investing a lot of effort in your personal brand?
Burnout comes when we turn the personal brand into pressure, not a path. This is not a race, but a process of self-expression that should bring satisfaction.
Content makes sense when it is real – not when it is just another post. The personal brand should be a pleasure, not an obligation. Only then does it stay alive and inspire others.

How can a strong personal brand lead to more opportunities (jobs, partnerships, clients)?
A strong personal brand opens doors – sometimes even before you knock on them yourself. People start to associate you with a certain value, approach, or expertise. This builds trust even before the personal meeting.

What are the best ways to monetize a personal brand?
With consistency, value, and authenticity, quality invitations, new clients, and projects start to come. There is no need for a loud presence – consistency with a clear message is sufficient.

When is the right time to start offering paid services or products?
When questions, inquiries, and interest start to come – that is a sign that the audience is ready to invest in what you offer. The important thing is that the offer is useful and made with care.

How to maintain sustainability and long-term growth of the personal brand?
Sustainability does not come from being everywhere, but from being in the right place with the right words. Staying true to yourself, but also open to the new – that is the formula for long-term growth.

What habits and discipline are needed to build authority?
Authority is built with patience, perseverance, and consistency. Small but steady steps – every useful idea, every shared value – leave a mark and build trust.

Which personalities with a successful personal brand inspire you and why?
I am inspired by young people – not so much the established names, but those who bring change. They create content, build communities, and inspire the future. From them, we learn courage, innovation, and relevance.

What three specific things can people do today to improve their personal brand?
First – let them be authentic. This is the foundation of a strong message.
Second – to pay attention to details, including language and grammar.
And third – not to rush to be present everywhere, but to leave a meaningful and memorable trace that speaks truly and stays in people's minds.
