Invest early in personal brand and public communication

True success is being helpful and assisting, without necessarily having personal gain!

Introduce yourself in a few words…
I am Dr. Angel Radev – angiologist and phlebologist, founder of Varix Clinic – venous laser center. My career is dedicated to high-tech minimally invasive methods for treating varicose veins. Treatment that changed the entire field of venous diseases – without incisions and stitches, without disfiguring scars, only with local anesthesia and no hospital stay. For me, medicine is a meaning that combines science, technology, and care for people.

How would you describe your career in a few words?
As an exciting long journey, associated with constant learning, innovations, and development. I have always sought ways to apply the latest global practices in the field of venous diseases in Bulgaria, as I believe that patients here also deserve the best possible treatment that is applied in the best venous clinics in Europe and around the world.

What was the most important choice that shaped your path?
To stay in Bulgaria and build a clinic that would be a symbol of innovation, high quality, and trust. However, for me, innovations should not be perceived as an end in themselves, but as a responsibility towards people's health.

What would you like to have known at the beginning of your career that no one told you?
Over time and experience, I have solidified the clear conviction that medicine is not just diagnosis and treatment – it is above all communication and trust. Today, I place the patient at the center of every professional decision.

How can a person understand which profession is suitable for them?
When they ask themselves: “Am I ready to do this even without applause and recognition?” If the answer is “yes,” that is the right path. Passion, persistence, and resilience are the formula for professional fulfillment and satisfaction.

Which skills do you think will be key in the next 10 years?
I believe that passion and the desire to do and create are and will be the eternal engines of development in every professional field. It is no coincidence that work is a creative activity and a very important element of life, meaning, and the way of existence of a person. Key skills will also include adaptive thinking, the ability to learn quickly, and to adjust according to the dynamics of the world's and technologies' development. Emotional intelligence, empathy, and integrity will always be fundamental qualities for us as social beings, because in the era of artificial intelligence, human connections and relationships will be irreplaceable.

How to build a network of useful contacts without appearing interested?
By starting with giving, not asking. True connections are created when we seek ways to help others – then trust comes naturally.

What is the biggest mistake you have made in your career, and what did you learn from it?
At first, I underestimated the power of the team and tried to carry everything alone. I learned that great achievements are only possible through collaboration and shared responsibility.

How to recognize a toxic work environment and when is it time to leave?
A toxic environment is one where there is no respect and space for growth. If we lose energy daily instead of drawing it, it means it’s time for a change and to move on.

What would you do differently if you could start over?
I would invest earlier in building a personal brand and public communication. When people know who you are and what you stand for, the path to trust is shorter.

How to maintain our motivation in times of stagnation?
By reminding ourselves “why we started.” My reasons are the personal satisfaction from my work and our patients – their stories give me strength and meaning even in the toughest moments.

How to achieve a balance between professional and personal life?
Balance is not equality in time, but quality of presence. In my work, I give my all to the patients, while at home all my attention is directed to my family. Of course, this balance is often difficult to achieve at the cost of considerable sacrifices. If we wish to achieve something meaningful, sacrifices are inevitable – there is no free lunch.

When is it time to change our career, not just the job?
When we feel that even a new position in the same field does not bring us meaning. Changing careers is the courage to start over where our passion leads us.

If you had to give only one piece of advice to people seeking success, what would it be?
Invest in yourself, but make sure to discover your passion and act without excuses. Skills, knowledge, and reputation are the capital that no crisis can take away from you.

What is your definition of a “successful career”?
A successful career is one in which we achieve professional satisfaction and recognition, but without losing ourselves and our values. True success is being helpful and assisting, without necessarily having personal gain.
