Whatever you do - remember why you do it
· Nadia Bright
We are all human and everything happens!
Introduce yourself in
few sentences!
Nadia Bright - stand-up
comedian, radio host at “Darik Radio”,
author and host of the podcast“Your Story”,
change coach (soon I will introduce the free use of the feminine form of this profession
- coachess), public speaking trainer, author of the novel “Misha”, ambassador
of the cause against domestic violence.
What did you dream of becoming in your childhood?
I don't remember
that. I remember playing teacher.
At what age did you earn your first money? Tell us an interesting story?
I was in fourth grade,
when I cut the cord of several necklaces of my grandmother and started making
necklaces and bracelets from beads for my classmates. I earned quite a bit of money, considering
my zero investment.
In fifth grade, I sold
notebooks at school.
What are the main
factors and examples that shape us as individuals at an early age and
form our interests? What is your recipe for
curiosity, sources and wells of information and inspiration at this stage of
our human development?
I assume that if
the child is surrounded by adults whose work is interesting and is a source
of satisfaction, rather than something they constantly complain about or that
causes tension at home, they will be more inclined to choose a profession. And
this applies to most things in life - if knowledge in the very first environment you
find yourself in is a value - it will likely be a value for you as well, and so on.
Has there been
any significant difference in your perceptions in more mature age about what
motivates you to do or not do something?
What was a
shortcoming in my school years - that I only strive if I have a live interest
in something, after realizing that I wouldn't change it, I turned it into my main trait
and resource for work. Now I only work on what and when I want. So, I always
work with desire. Yes, every choice has its price, but for the sake of my satisfaction and
freedom, it's worth it.
Whose decision was
it where to pursue higher education and what to study? Was this decision correct, looking back today?
In my family,
higher education is perceived as mandatory, just like school.
I chose my majors myself, although there were others who wanted to
make choices instead of me.

skills and hobbies?
Recently, I have
been interested in history - just reading or listening to educational courses,
in politics - in the same way as history. In fact, I understand most
processes through examining the human factor in it - motivation, actions,
results… The psyche of people is “my thing.” I read books, and lately I
find myself, due to the global situation, unable to read heavier literature.
Still, I couldn't suddenly start reading superficial books either, so I
am in balance. I love biographies and autobiographies, as well as some travelogues.
Of course - I am interested in everything that can develop the skills that are
useful for my professional activities. And that means I must constantly be
open to a lot of different information.
Would you change
your profession today and which fields of activity capture your interest?
No :)
They say that
your personal brand is everything that people say about you, when you are not in the same room with them.
What would you like to hear today?
That I can be
counted on. This is what is established from experience with a person. Everything else you can
see on Facebook.
Emotional
intelligence, adaptability and flexibility, as well as our soft skills are
key conditions for success in recent years. How do you cope with
the daily challenges of life to be in good shape and
mood?
I don't always
insist on being in good shape and mood. And if I happen to allow myself to frown
in front of some of my commitments, I remind myself that no one is obligated to me and
the choice is mine. I can quit, do my job, as if it’s some given or be grateful that I have the
opportunity to do something I love and that it pays some bills. And quite quickly, both my shape and
mood come back :)
What are the
most important conclusions you have made so far about maintaining the right
communication considering the different characters of the people you meet
daily – colleagues, friends, relatives?
By nature, I am a bit
nervous and critical (even someone who has known me for a long time and is reading this might say “A bit?”). I have long established that this temperament and behavior brings
more harm than good. Therefore, I accepted that we are all human and everything happens.
If something annoys me or I don't like it, I don't rush to react immediately,
evaluate whether it is really important or if I can brush it off. Very few things are
worth creating nerves for myself and/or others. Also,
many people demonstrate some character through nervousness and demands
on others. I don't need to demonstrate anything. But when something is really not
right - I react. I react clearly, categorically and necessarily - with good
manners.
What do you think about
money? What is their influence on your life? What is your advice to people who often ask themselves questions related to money and
how sufficient they are?
I think they don't
matter if you have them :) In that sense - it's good to have them. How much to have is
a question I can't answer. But I certainly know that I can't be
close to or particularly respect people for whom money is the main goal and
a measure of their personality.
What is the
most valuable career advice you would give to people?
Whatever you do - remember why you do it.
