Nikola Tsolov: Family as Support, Fear as Fuel

It matters how strongly you believe and how much you are willing to give. If you don't give up, the path always opens up!

Introduce yourself in a few words.

My name is Nikola Tsolov. I am a competitive pilot, but above all, I am a person who has chosen to follow a dream to the end. For me, motorsport is not just speed – it is character, discipline, and a daily battle with myself.

How old were you when you first sat behind the wheel of a go-kart and how do you remember that moment?

I was 9 years old. I remember the sound of the engine, the smell of the asphalt, and the feeling that I was exactly where I needed to be. At that moment, I didn't know what professional sport meant, but I knew that this was my place.

How did your childhood years and early dreams prepare you for this path?

While other kids dreamed, I started working for my dream. I realized early on that nothing comes for free. Every early start, every training session, every tough year builds me not only as a pilot but also as a person.

What was your first significant racing achievement?

The first big victories gave me not so much joy as faith. Faith that efforts matter. Faith that I am capable. That was a moment when I told myself: “I can go far.”

What sacrifices did you have to make as a child?

Many things that others take for granted – time with friends, a normal childhood, peace. But I never felt them as a loss. That was the price of my dream – and I paid it consciously.

Who had the greatest influence on your development?

My family. They believed in me before anyone else. They were and are with me when I win, but even more – when I lose. That is the greatest strength you can have.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome?

To keep moving forward when things don't work out, when the results don't reflect your effort. In those moments, you understand who you really are.

How do you cope with pressure and expectations?

I learned to live with them. To turn them into fuel, not a burden. When you are alone in the cockpit, there is no room for fear – there is only concentration and faith in yourself.

Is there a moment that changed you?

Yes. The losses. They made me stronger than the victories. They taught me patience, humility, and perseverance.

What keeps you going when the results don't come?

The dream. Not as a word, but as a feeling. It is there every time I fasten my helmet and close the visor.

What qualities are crucial for success?

Mental strength. Discipline. And the ability to stay true to yourself in a world that constantly tests you.

How do you see the next few years?

As a path upward – not always easy, but clear. Every step brings me closer to the biggest goal. Formula 1 is not just a dream – it is a direction.

What would you like to say to Bulgarian youth?

That it doesn't matter where you start. What matters is how strongly you believe and how much you are willing to give. If you don't give up, the path always opens up.
