What do Bulgarians think about a decent life – how many euros is the new stability threshold?
· Career Daily News

The topic of income is no longer perceived as taboo, but as a right to a decent life!
2500 euros – the new measure of normality?
What does this amount tell us about the Bulgarian sense of a decent life?
The question of “how much money is enough to live normally” is not just economic, but deeply psychological. It affects the sense of security, self-respect, and our place in society.
In an online survey, 439 people shared their opinions on the adequate salary for a person of working age. Although not representative, the survey shows an interesting social pulse and reflects the change in the way Bulgarians perceive the standard of living.
The results of the survey look like this:
- 1000
euros – 1%
- 1500
euros – 7%
- 2000
euros – 24%
- 2500+
euros – 68%
That is, nearly two-thirds of the participants believe that a “normal life” requires at least 2500 euros per month. Only 8% of the respondents indicate amounts below 1500 euros, which clearly shows the change in public attitudes – “enough” is no longer equal to “survival”.
The psychology of “normal life”
Financial adequacy is not measured only in numbers. It is a reflection of personal boundaries, self-esteem, and what a person considers to be fair compensation for their work.
After years of economic instability and social stratification, many people begin to seek a higher level of security – not just to be able to pay bills, but to afford peace, rest, education for their children, and personal development.
2500 euros, according to attitudes, is not a luxurious dream, but a threshold of stability – sufficient to ensure a life without constant fear of tomorrow.
This trend also shows something deeper:
- The Bulgarian begins to equate their work to the European standard,
- feels that their time, competence, and efforts have value,
- and increasingly accepts less compromise between quality of life and income.
Psychologically, this is a form of awareness and growth – a transition from the survival model to the dignity model.
The context behind the numbers
It should be emphasized that the survey does not consider key factors such as:
- whether it is about living in Sofia or in a smaller town,
- whether the participant has a mortgage, loan, rent, or family,
- whether the income is personal or family,
- and what “normal life” actually means for different people.
For some, “normal” includes the possibility of travel, for others – simply peace and financial predictability.
But it is precisely in this diversity that the value of the sample lies – it outlines the general idea of “minimum security” that Bulgarians strive for.
Social reflection
The social aspect is also interesting – people increasingly talk about money not with guilt or discomfort, but with awareness. The topic of income is no longer perceived as taboo, but as a right to a decent life.
This is a sign of change in cultural attitudes. While a decade ago the question “How much money do you want?” could sound rude, today it is part of the conscious professionalism and confidence of the new generation of specialists.
The survey does not provide a definitive answer, but shows the direction in which society is thinking.
2500 euros is not just an amount – it is a symbol of the expectation for normality, fairness, and recognition.
It is not necessarily achievable for everyone today, but it is the psychological goal around which the new image of the Bulgarian unites – one who does not just struggle to “survive”, but to live with dignity, peace, and confidence.
